Choosing steering and link tools

Check the turnbuckle flats

Measure the flat section in the center of the adjuster. An open-ended wrench can reach from the side, but the opening must match before you turn it.

Match the ball link profile

Check the ball diameter, socket width and access around the link before choosing a remover or fitting tool. A removal slot works differently from a wrench that changes link length.

Compare these selections

Department questions

Does link length tell me the wrench size?

Use the width across the flats of the adjuster, even if two links are the same length.

Can a wrench press off a ball link?

Use a tool shaped for the ball and socket if your task is separating the link.

Why choose more than one opening?

Different links on the same car can have different flats, so check the positions you service.
