Choosing nut and wheel tools

Measure the nut across flats

Compare the socket size with the faces of the nut you turn. A cross wrench is convenient for several common sizes, while a dedicated driver may suit recessed access better.

Check socket depth and clearance

A deep socket can reach past a protruding axle or stud. Look at the socket outside diameter as well, because a wheel recess can be narrower than a socket that matches the nut. For beadlock work, match the nominal rim class and the wheel face to the fixture instead.

What size should I measure on the wheel nut?

Measure across opposite flat faces of the nut that actually turns.

Is a cross wrench always a shallow tool?

Check the depth of the exact socket arm and compare it with your axle projection.

Can one 17 mm tool fit every 1/8 vehicle?

Check the model's nut and wheel recess. The scale label alone does not establish either dimension.
