Choose a body reamer and trimming tools

Separate the job of opening post holes from the job of trimming an edge. The shell material, desired hole and access around the cut guide the choice.

Choose a reamer by hole size

Measure the part passing through the shell and check the marked range of the reamer. Start with a smaller opening and check fit as you approach the required diameter.

Choose scissors by the cut line

A curved blade can help when following a wheel arch. Check the shell material and the blade clearance inside the opening before selecting a tool.

Plan how tools travel and store

For a pit box, compare the handle length and whether a protective cap covers the working end. A two-tool set may be useful if you need to both trim and make holes.

Guide questions

Does a cone reamer have one fixed diameter?

Check its range and markings. The diameter changes with how far the cone enters the opening.

What should I measure for a body post?

Measure the portion that passes through the shell and check the model instructions for fit.

Can curved scissors replace a reamer?

Scissors trim an edge. A reamer is the dedicated choice for enlarging a round post opening.

Which accessory suits the job?

  1. Compare the curved Traxxas blade for a wheel arch with the straight 3431 blade for a lower body line. Both are separate from the reamer that enlarges a post opening.

  2. The Tamiya reamer is a single tool for 3 to 13 mm polycarbonate openings. The Hobbypark set includes curved scissors as well for trimming an arch.
